Taylor Science Learning Center Upland, Indiana
The $26.9 million Taylor University Science Learning Center project is an expansion of the Nussbaum Science building. The existing 54,300-square-foot building will become a 136,000-square-foot facility. The new three-story laboratory and classroom addition with a lower level basement will be connected to the existing building by an atrium. The atrium will consist of skylights and energy-efficient roof materials which will allow natural light and heat to penetrate the building, providing noteworthy energy savings.
LEED Silver certification is targeted for the facility. Sustainable components under consideration include water usage reduction, energy optimization of building systems, construction waste management, use of recycled materials and lighting control systems. Construction is anticipated to begin in mid 2009 and reach completion in December 2010.
